The client
skyIQ is an aviation technology startup focused on making fuel and fee planning faster, easier, and more accurate for pilots and charter operators. Founded by aviation professionals who understood the challenges of fuel planning firsthand, skyIQ set out to create a no-frills, intuitive platform that helps flight crews evaluate fueling options, account for fees and operational constraints, and make more informed, cost-effective decisions.
The challenge
Fuel planning involves balancing numerous variables: fuel pricing and airport fees, waivers, aircraft requirements, and weight restrictions. Existing processes can require a significant amount of manual preplanning and burdensome calculations, creating additional workload for pilots planning the most economical refueling strategy possible.
The skyIQ team had the aviation expertise and a clear vision for a better approach. They needed an experienced development partner who could work alongside their team to translate that industry knowledge into a robust, easy-to-use software application.
The solution
LANEX collaborated closely with the skyIQ team to develop the application behind their vision. Together, we built a platform that transforms complex fuel and fee planning into a simple, intuitive workflow.
One early development activity involved identifying what role, if any, recent AI technology offered to the solution. Through our engineering process, LANEX was able to develop a solution which leveraged AI to extract document information flexibly, while crafting optimization algorithms, resulting in predictable performance.
The application minimizes manual effort by helping automate trip data entry and calculations, allowing pilots and operators to quickly compare options and identify an optimal fuel plan. The result is a purpose-built application that combines skyIQ’s aviation expertise with LANEX’s software development experience to help flight crews reduce workload, improve planning accuracy, and make better-informed operational decisions.
